Resume Oddities

by adowling on June 14, 2009

In the course of reviewing resumes, I’ve seen some really crazy stuff.  There are the usual out of place or inappropriate items like date of birth or marital statusDo not proceed, Wrong! but every once in a while you stumble onto statements or misspellings that just blow you away.  When this happens, all you can do is stare in disbelief that someone thought it was a good idea to add that statement to their resume.

Here are a few of the strange things I’ve seen:

  • i had to quit because i go sick (pnewmonia)
  • Responsible for enacting with patients
  • Exceptional employee
  • Objective: To obtain employment
  • This position also requires a massage amount of paperwork and  documents.
  • Efficiency with Technology
  • Processed and maintained customer service to customers

What kind of off the wall statements have you seen on resumes?

I just recieved a resume recently with a list of activities that the candidate currently enjoyed, and a list of activities they would like to try. My top 3 that they would like to try:
Rodeo Clown
Reading a book from beginning to end
Streaking at a professional sports event

I said this on twitter awhile back, but I recently got a resume from a guy who said he was a “night stalker” at Whole Foods! Cracked me up.

Another person listed her interests, including conducting pole dance parties.

@Puf – Welcome back! Streaking at a sporting event, nice. That’s one classy fella

@Krista I’m almost afraid to ask what a night stalker at Whole Foods is…… There’s a gym nearby that offers pole dancing to ladies, its rather expensive but I’ve heard you can really tone up your body. If I had the coordination and wouldn’t embarrass myself, I might give it go.

@adowling – I can almost understand the streaking thing (not condoning it, mind you), but I have to be honest the drive to actually read a book from beginning to end slayed me. I guess I took for granted the effort involved!

@Puf My brain just cant comprehend someone not being able to read a full book in a year. I read so many books in a year that I’ve considered enrolling myself in a Book Store Rehabilitiation facility.
