A Monday Success Story

by adowling on June 15, 2009

Mondays are rarely filed under successful for me; I’m just not a Monday person.  Today was oddly an exception and owe lots of thanks to my wonderful coworker.

I detest filing; I’d rather conduct a sexual harassment investigation or poke my own eye with toothpick than file paperwork in personnel files.  My to-do list has had ‘filing’ carried over from day to day for a week.  Our SVP of HR is coming in town tomorrow and my desk was a mess with unfiled paperwork; the thought of just shoving it all in a drawer was looking appealing.

My coworker came into my office this afternoon around 2pm and amidst afternoon chit chat she asked what I needed to get done and I reluctantly responded “I need to file”.

This coworker and I spend Friday afternoon cleaning her office for the same reason I needed to file.  She graciously offered to assist me in filing the mountain of paperwork even though she has an equal disdain for filing.

While she filed, I worked on all the other little things that I needed to accomplish today so tomorrow could flow smoothly.  This coworker inspired me to plow through the other tedious work so I could file June 15, 2009 as a successful day.

I raise my drink to those coworkers that inspire and offer help even though they themselves would rather be on the beach drinking a cold one and reading a book.
