Football, Labor day and Employee Engagement

by adowling on September 4, 2009

Editors Note: I had this other blog post ready to go up, but after a frustrating day yesterday I was advised by my loving husband to not post it.  So, you are getting this post instead. Sorry, the other was really good and involved my own management theory; you missed out.

Football season kicks off this weekend and it’s a three day weekend of most of us.  For me and my company it means Fridays full of football smack talk and plans of Halloween costumes and Thanksgiving luncheons.

In the South, football season controls the weekends, more so in Alabama I think.  Here, the first question most people ask is “Alabama or Auburn?”  I usually fail immediately because I respond with “Gators?” I’m not well liked during football season.

This fall brings tailgating on Fridays, department decorations and costume contests to my office.  And food, you can never have too much finger food.

What do you guys have in store for the office this fall?

Any big plans for employee appreciation or employee engagement functions? Nothing too cheesy I hope.

Want to smack talk football with me? Hit me up in the comments section.

Oh and GO GATORS! WOO!

We have a big chili cook-off at work in October. It is so fun and of course everyone makes great chili. It’s also the perfect time of year to stay in for lunch and have warm chili. The winner of the cook-off just gets bragging rights for the year.

@Trish We were going to do a chili cook off last year but we were waiting for a day that was really cold and that doesnt happen very often down here.

Gators? In Alabama? Isn’t that a class II misdemeanor in that state?
I had the same problem living there (huge UK fan here) , although I was forced into a corner when they told me I had to pick one to get my drivers license…. so, ROLL TIDE!

@tlcolson Yes, in Alabama I am a freak of nature and not well liked by half the state after last years SEC championship game.
