How to build a successful team – A formula for success Part 1

by adowling on October 6, 2009

Growing up, I hated math; I had an unnatural hatred for it.

Who would’ve thought the secret to turning a dysfunctional team into a promising super power was a math formula. Certainly not me!

So, what’s this formula all about? Well, according to Stan Sims it’s a sure fire way to turn a team around.  The formula is simple (C5) PFU=S.  Don’t try to solve it for U or F or even P, you’ll miss the point.

Here’s the low down on the formula for success.

S, as I’m sure you guessed is for Success. The parts that equal success are the keys.

C5

C number 1 = Customers, internal/external.  Your customers are internal employees and visitors, external customers are clients, patients, family members etc.

C number 2 = Care. Do you care? Do you care about each other, your work, ethics. Give your work your stamp approval. Think of this as your quality control sticker in a pair of jeans or your name on handmade Bentley engine.

C number 3 = Culture. Your people are the most valuable tool, respect them; ‘nuf said.

C number 4 = Cash. If the goal of your company is make a profit, collect the green stuff; if the goal of your company is to take care of people and you function on donations, take care of your people.

C number 5 = Cost. It’s the responsibility of everyone to watch costs. Do you need to print that email? Did you turn off the lights? If everyone is conscience of their cost footprint everyone can work together to make the company profitable.

Great post! Also, I hated math throughout school. I purposely majored in a subject that required the least amount of math. I do math throughout my day, everyday as a part of my job. I should apply this formula to my current department. I’ll be back tomorrow!
