I’ve heard it called several things; hitting the wall, out of care, lack of focus, pissed off brain, just plain ole distracted. I think I used up my October brain functioning allotment last week.
I should be reading my weekly module for the SPHR exam but instead I’m sitting here reading about the Media of Birmingham monthly meeting and thinking about the BSHRM chapter meeting tomorrow.
Distractions come in many forms, both at home and at work. Television shows distract me at night; The Colbert Report seems to be distracting me now.
In the office you’ll find rumor mills, office gossip, bad interviews (you can talk about some for hours) holiday parties or food in general. We interviewed a candidate a few months ago that couldn’t take her eyes off the hiring managers well decorated finger nails. The candidate was so enthralled by them she tuned out the questions being asked.
I keep knick knacks on my desk to help distract people that need a temporary distraction to get their thoughts together. The favorite distraction at my desk, aside from my stash of peanut M&M’s is the bunny picture on the back of my monitor.
What keeps you up a night? What distracts you from your task at hand and how do you get back on track once your brain has completely derailed?

Good thing I pointed you toward that bunny picture.
I love that thing. I am going to print one right this second for my monitor since I lost my last one in the move.
I get distracted fairly easily, and it takes a lot to get me back on track. Unless I’m reading, and I could tune out a rock concert for that. When I write, I can do it anywhere, but sitting alone on the couch with the laptop is the best way I’ve found with recent tests.
@Ben – Yes, thank you for introducing me to the funny bunny; its been a great ice breaker. I get distracted easily too, most of the time I get back on track fairly easily….most of the time.
