How they got here – Q and A

by adowling on March 26, 2010

One of my favorite things about Google Analytics is viewing the keyword searches.  I love the different ways people found their way to this blog.  Some are off the wall, some are genuine questions.  Here’s a few from this year with my responses.

  • why hr – Why not? Don’t do it because you like people, don’t do it for the money. Do it because you want to help a business succeed.
  • is it illegal for salaried employees to clock in and out? No but it’s a stupid idea. Seriously don’t do it.
  • can employer make only some exempt employees punch time clock? Ugh, see above.
  • phr study guide free Rock the PHR, that’s what you want. See the box to the right.
  • tips for dropping off resumes Call first and make sure its ok.
  • “justin iiams” WTF?
  • at the end of the first year,if you got this job,how would you measure your success – Depends on the job. What are the goals for the department, what kind of culture are you dealing with?
  • can i fake phr certification – No.
  • does hr read resumes – Yes but not yours.
  • hop from 跳槽 使用 – I have no idea what this is about.
  • how to ace the phr – Study for it, live it, breathe it, know it.
  • how to get into hr jobs – Network, talk to people in the field, attend chapter meetings, express an interest with your companies HR, internships for experience.
  • i am defined by my roles – No you aren’t. You’re defined by what do you in those roles.
  • igor noveski – again, WTF?
  • oh look, a bird! And a squirrel!
  • monetary value of the corner office $0.00 Maybe, I don’t know. I’ve to corner offices, didn’t see the big deal.
  • punching someone clock in grounds to be fired – Yes, punching someone into the ground or on the ground or near the ground of the workplace is usually grounds for termination. Punch something else.
  • sphr certification thoughts – It’s tough but if you study for it, I mean really study it, you’ll be fine.
  • why i want to become a hr – Well, I don’t know anyone that wants to become a HR but I know some that want to get into HR; see above.
  • ´margaritas limes, s.a.d e c.v. – Um…what?

I get a lot of searches about exempt employee time keeping and measuring success.  Don’t force exempt employees to clock in, dude its dumb. Set goals that align with the business goals and your own professional goals; meet those and you’ve succeed. Rinse and repeat.

These are hilarious. I’d publish some of mine but they are ((cough cough)) kind of gross.
